Frequently Asked Questions
Having a registered Clinical Physiologist with formal certification in Sleep Sciences be available to review your sleep study data, and then provide you with a follow up consultation (in your home) is the core value of BEDPOST Sleep Collective. This is not available elsewhere.
Typically our Clinical Physiologist will arrive at 2:30pm or 3:30pm. The sleep study set up will take about 30 minutes.
The device goes over your clothes, and you will wear the device until the Clinical Physiologist returns the following morning. The device is not waterproof, so use common sense while wearing it.
The Clinical Physiologist will remove the device the following morning when they arrive at 5:30am or 7:30am, and will then analyse the data while in your home. Once the report is ready, the findings will be discussed with you.
If features of moderate OSA are found in your sleep study, a report will be sent to your doctor and a trial of CPAP will be offered immediately.
CPAP is the most effective treatment for obstructive sleep apnoea, so it is important to trial this first. We can certainly offer you alternative therapies and multi-night efficacy follow up investigations, pending clinical review and our discussions with you.
If you choose to commence a trial of CPAP with us, a follow up telehealth appointment will be made for approximately 7 days time. Trials typically last for 4 weeks, pending response to therapy and we have telehealth consultations every week of your trial.
CPAP trials are monitored remotely, and the data can be linked to an app on your phone so that you can monitor your data as well.
Your doctor will receive a report after your sleep study and at the end of your CPAP trial. Your doctor will also receive a report if other therapies are trialled with efficacy review.
Yes. This is the most advanced sleep study available outside of an in hospital setting. In fact, we use hospital grade sleep study devices, and our clinical team are all certified sleep scientists with the Australia New Zealand Sleep Science Association.
Yes, but be mindful that Medicare rebates are only available for sleep studies under a very specific set of circumstances.
At BEDPOST Sleep Collective we offer two clinical supervision models for our sleep services: Allied Health led (non-Medicare) and Specialist Physician led (Medicare funded).
Costs will vary depending on which service you choose (attended in your home, or unattended self-applied), and which model you choose or are eligible for (Allied Health or Specialist led).
Our sleep studies:
1) Attended (hospital grade, gold standard sleep study).
Allied Health Led: Billed as a sleep study ($220) + call out fee ($200)
Specialist Led: Pending review, is billed up front $620, with a $332 rebate paid following successful claim.
Summary: The sleep study is applied by a certified sleep scientist in your home in the afternoon, is then removed the morning afterwards, analysed, and results discussed during the follow up consultation that morning. We may offer you a trial of therapy at this time.
2) Unattended (self applied)
Allied Health Led: Billed as a sleep study ($220)
Specialist Led: Deposit of $220, refunded following successful Medicare claim.
Summary: Device is collected from our partner pharmacy in Rosalie. You will apply the device yourself, using our instructions and videos. You will then remove the device the following morning and return it to the pharmacy. A follow up telehealth consultation will be made available to discuss your results and offer any therapy recommendations.
CPAP trial: $200 +GST. This is a one month trial of CPAP therapy, and includes a large selection of masks to try, and weekly consultations with a registered professional. (note a call out fee will be required if we need to travel to your home)

If an onsite visit or a Therapy efficacy sleep study are needed, this costs $400 and includes the same follow-up analysis and consultation as the screening sleep study. During the call out, we will manually test your CPAP machines performance, its data readouts and will need you to provide us with a lot of information about your overall health and sleep for these appointments.

Yes, you will usually need to take some time off work. We do have an executive booking available for those who cannot take time off work (all deposits are non refundable for executive bookings). Our most common booking is the routine sleep study appointment, these are available:
Monday to Wednesday at 2:30 PM, 3:30 PM.
These are home-based appointments and take about 30 minutes.
Follow-up consultations are conducted the next morning at 5:30 AM, 7:30 AM, lasting about an hour.
We offer an Executive Booking option:
Sunday evening at 7:00 PM or 8:00 PM (30-minute appointment).
Follow-up consultation on Monday morning at 5:30 AM or 7:30 AM (approximately 1 hour).
Total charge: $200 added to our standard in home attended fees.
No, not for our Allied Health led model, but it is strongly recommended.
For our specialist led services, yes you need a referral and it needs to be a specific BEDPOST Sleep Collective referral template. These referrals need to meet a set of well documented criteria to screen for a high pre-test probability of having Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) Syndrome (OSA + increased daytime sleepiness).
For our specialist physician led model, these referrals can only be provided by:
General Practitioners (GPs)
Specialist Physicians
For our allied health led model, referrals can be provided by:
General Practitioners (GPs)
Specialist Physicians
Dentists
Allied Health Professionals (e.g., psychologists, dietitians, exercise physiologists)
Registered Nurses
We require your GP's details. This is non-negotiable, as all sleep study and consultation reports are sent to both you and your GP (and your referrer, if applicable).
We do not provide medical diagnoses but conduct objective sleep assessments. Your Doctor can provide a formal diagnosis if needed. Our specialist led model will usually confirm a diagnosis if clinically appropriate.
We specialise in Type II sleep studies (Home Sleep Apnoea Tests) to rule in or out Obstructive Sleep Apnoea, with or without therapy.
If complex sleep disorders (e.g., hypersomnolence, parasomnias, or sleep-related breathing disorders) are suspected, we will recommend seeing a Sleep Physician. Our work up can be taken to them directly.
Additionally, if we detect signs of cardiac abnormalities, neurocognitive disorders, or other medical conditions, we will flag these for your GP and provide specialist recommendations where appropriate.
BEDPOST Sleep Collective exclusively recommends Auto CPAP (APAP) machines due to their advanced features and adaptability.
While fixed-pressure CPAP machines are available, they are best managed under the care of a Sleep Physician, which may lead to higher long-term costs.
We supply our APAP machines and mask package for $1,600 AUD.
For clients seeking alternative CPAP machines or masks, we have partnerships with other suppliers who may offer discounted rates to our clients through their online store.
For ongoing CPAP therapy management, we require that your APAP machine be onboarded to our remote management platform. This allows us to monitor your therapy and make adjustments as needed.
Note: we routinely offer ongoing managed care for our clients who purchase their CPAP equipment from BEDPOST Sleep Collective. We do not have the resources to guarantee this service to clients who elect to purchase equipment elsewhere. For these clients, we recommend they see a specialist physician for follow up and can provide some recommendations if needed.
That’s okay, we offer alternative therapies.
While CPAP is the gold standard for treating OSA, only about 75% of users find it effective and comfortable for long-term use.
Other treatment options include:
Mandibular Advancement Splints (trial provided by us, final device is made by a dentist)
EPAP Therapy (provided by us)
Positional Therapy Devices (provided by us)
Exercise, Nutrition, & Weight Loss Programs
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBTi)
Some therapies do not provide compliance data or have lower effectiveness than CPAP. We may recommend follow-up sleep studies to assess their efficacy. We have multi night type 4 sleep studies available for this.
For complex sleep disorders, a Sleep Physician should be consulted. We can provide recommendations for specialists, but we do not typically advise on surgical interventions, as these discussions should occur between you, your GP, and your specialist.
Please note: once a deposit has been transferred to pay for a CPAP trial; this is non-refundable, even if the trial itself is declined.

About BEDPOST Sleep Collective
Welcome to BEDPOST Sleep Collective
At BEDPOST Sleep Collective, we offer a fresh approach to assessing and managing sleep disorders through an Allied Health-led model. Drawing on over 20 years of experience in hospital settings, we now bring high-quality care directly to your home, working closely with your general practitioner.
Ongoing communication with general practitioners is at the very centre of patient care under our model.
Who We Are
Our team of registered Clinical Physiologists use the latest, evidence-based methods to assess, educate, treat, and follow up with the management of sleep disorders. With extensive experience in sleep research and clinical practice, and strong collaborations with doctors, nurses, psychologists, dentists, sleep physicians, cardiologists, exercise physiologists, and nutrition experts: we ensure that your care is both comprehensive and personalised.
Who We Serve
Sleep Troubles (Non-Apnoea): Clients with general sleep difficulties can start with an online consultation. (We also offer a 6 week CBTi program for those with features of Insomnia)
At-Risk for Sleep Apnoea: Clients at risk for OSA begin with an in-home sleep study and consultation.
Ongoing Therapy Needs: Clients who have OSA, or are already on therapy and needing to evaluate its effectiveness can choose online follow-ups or in-home therapy sleep studies.
Our Care Model
Our services are delivered entirely at your home, from the initial consultation and sleep study to CPAP setup (if required) and all follow-up care. We provide immediate analysis of sleep study data and offer consultations, education, and CPAP trials right after the study. Follow-up care is usually via telehealth, with in-home visits available when needed.
A trial CPAP is our first-line treatment for obstructive sleep apnoea, but we regularly offer alternative therapies aligned with national and international guidelines.
We conduct type II sleep studies to screen for obstructive sleep apnoea and to assess the effectiveness of your therapy. In more complex cases, our scientists work with you and your GP to determine the best next steps.
We’re here to help you sleep better, live better, and feel better.
